[This petition is damaged, and the right edge is missing.]Richard de Podemor makes two requests.1) He asks that he be appointed as clerk and controller of the maltote in Berwick, or to another office, on account of his good service to the king's father and his losses during the war.2) He requests letters to the King of Scotland, concerning the ransom of Waleys and his wife's inheritance in Perth.1)
Nature of endorsement

Places mentioned
Scotland
Berwick-upon-Tweed, [Northumberland]
St John's Town (Perth), [Perthshire, Scotland].

Edmund de Hastings.
Note
The document cannot date to before 1307 (reference to the wars of the king's father), or to the period 1318-33, when Berwick was in Scottish hands. However, documents from 1307-18 are highly unlikely to refer to a current king of Scotland, as Robert I was not recognised as such by the English government. It would therefore seem most likely that the petition dates to the period after the fall of Berwick in 1333, when the English government recognised Edward Balliol as the legitimate king of Scotland. Extant references to Podemor's career all date to the reign of Edward II, possibly suggesting that Edward II is the 'king's father' who Podemor claimed to have served. A note on the guard dates it to c.1318, with reference to another petition from Podemor at SC 8/66/3276 which may date to that year, but that appears unconnected.
