Richard de Yeling (Eling), king's serjeant.
Name(s)
de Yeling (Eling), Richard
Addressees
King.
Occupation
king's serjeant
Nature of request
Richard de Yeling, the king's serjeant in the Isle of Wight and the New Forest, requests that the king grant lands and rents in Eling to him and his heirs, according to the terms of an extent regarding the property held by his grandfather in the time of Henry III.
Nature of endorsement
Enquire whether this is to the damage of the king or others if the king grants it, and return the inquest to the Exchequer, and the Treasurer and Barons will do what they consider best for the king.
Places mentioned
Isle of Wight, [Hampshire]
New Forest, [Hampshire]
Yeling (Eling), [Hampshire].
People mentioned
Richard de Yeling (Eling), great-grandfather of the petitioner
Henry [III], King of England
Robert Hugh
Richard Cole.
Note
This is evidently the petition from Richard de Yeling noted on the roll of responses from the midsummer parliament of 1302 (SC 9/25, m.1), as the response given on the dorse of this document precisely matches that copied onto that roll. This is contrary to the identification given in PROME, which suggests that that entry relates to SC 8/316/E 227, another petition on this matter from this petitioner, but which bears a different endorsement.
