Description
Petitioners
Jorward (Iorwerth), chamberlain of Thomas, late Earl of Lancaster.
Name(s)
Jorward (Iorwerth)
Addressees
King.
Occupation
chamberlain
Nature of request
Jorward, former chamberlain of Thomas, late Earl of Lancaster, requests the restoration of the bailiwick of the amober of Isaled, the rents of Berain and Talybryn and the mills of Talybryn, granted to him by the Earl for his good service. He states that he was deprived of these after the Earl's forfeiture, but that they were restored to him following a petition to the king. However, when the lordship of Denbigh was granted to the Earl of March, he was again ejected, notwithstanding the earlier order.
Nature of endorsement
He should come into Chancery and show his charter, and if this is without prejudice to the king or others, he may be confirmed, and let him be confirmed by fine.
Places mentioned
Isaled, [Denbighshire, Wales]
Denbigh, [Denbighshire, Wales]
Beryng (Berain), [Denbighshire, Wales]
Talybryn, [Denbighshire, Wales].
People mentioned
Thomas [of Lancaster], Earl of Lancaster
[Roger Mortimer], Earl of March.
Note
Given the subject matter, this petition probably dates to shortly after the fall of Mortimer in 1330, but since Mortimer (unlike Lancaster) is not described as the late earl, it may be slightly earlier.
