The petitioners request judgment in their case against Dory, stating that their ship had been taken at sea by Dory, but although the case was heard before the Earl of Devon, then the admiral, it was removed to Chancery without judgment being rendered, to their great damage.

Note
An indenture of agreement, dated 14 November 1385 (CCR 1385-9, pp.92-3), gives further details of this incident, which occurred on 7 September 1383. The Earl of Devon served as admiral of the western fleet between 13 November 1383 and 29 January 1385, thus suggesting that the petition dates to between the end of his term of office and 14 May 1385, the date on which a chancery warrant (with which the petition was formerly enclosed) was sent to the Treasurer.
