The people of Southampton request permission that, since they live by their ships and their trading, they may go with their ships to Gascony to find wines to bring to England and nowhere else, notwithstanding the prohibition made by the king that no kind of goods be taken outside this kingdom, on finding such surety as the said king and his council should wish to ordain.

The response to this petition is enrolled on the parliament roll for the Hilary parliament of 1307, and the requested licence was issued on 24 February 1307. Part of the endorsement is now obstructed by a repair, but a copy is given on the parliament roll.
