King.
Occupation
Abbot of Bardsey
Nature of request
The Abbot of Bardsey states that, after the conquest of Wales, an extent was made of the county of Caernarfonshire, including all exactions of Dafydd ap Gruffudd, just and unjust, which recorded a puture taken unjustly from Bardsey worth 68s 6d. Payment of this was never requested by Edward I, but when the principality of Wales was granted to the present king by his father, it was again demanded. At that time, the former abbot sought a writ from Sutton and Esthalle to respite the sum, and it was not exacted. However, the sheriff of Caernarfon now again demands payment, and the petitioner therefore requests exoneration of the sum, or respite until an inquiry into the matter is conducted.

Note
An order granting a pardon for this exaction, seemingly made in response to this petition, was issued on 18 May 1316. Given that Mortimer had held an inquisition in the meantime, presumably the petition was presented at some point during the preceding year or two.
