Reference
SC 8/179/8909
Date
[c. 1316]
Description
Petitioners
? No Petitioner named
Nature of request
Draft writ of Edward II to the justice of Wales, ordering an inquisition into the terms of a puture once exacted from the abbey by Prince Dafydd and now again demanded.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] William de Sutton.
Places mentioned
Wales
Bardsey, [Caernarfonshire, Wales]
Caernarfon, [Caernarfonshire, Wales].
People mentioned
Roger de Mortimer, justice of Wales
Abbot of Bardsey
David (Dafydd) [ap Gruffudd]
Llywelyn [ap Gruffudd], Prince of Wales
Edward [I], King of England
Sheriff of Caernarfon
William de Sutton.
Note
This would appear to relate to the inquisition held by Mortimer which led to the pardon of the sums concerned on 18 May 1316 (CPR 1313-17, pp.469-70), as requested in the petition from the abbot at SC 8/179/8910. Since the request was successful, it therefore seems most likely that this document forms a draft writ submitted by the abbot with that petition, rather than a later copy of the writ actually issued to Mortimer.
