Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/178/8894
Date
[c. 1322]
Description
Petitioners
Rose de Bureford (Burford), executrix of the testament of John de Burford.
Name(s)
de Bureford (Burford), Rose
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Bureford requests that the debt owed by the king to John de Burford be allowed in the custom that is paid on her own wool when she next passes out of the port of London or in another manner so that she can execute the testament of John de Burford for which she is executrix. The debt is for money that the king acknowledges to have received from John de Burford by the hand of the customers of London.
Nature of endorsement
She should go into Chancery and show there that she is the executrix and the royal letters mentioned in the petition, and let the issues be assigned to her according to the tenor of the letters without allowance in the customs of wool just as is requested by the petition.
Places mentioned
London.
People mentioned
John de Bureford (Burford), late citizen of London
William de Hedersete (Hethersett), customer of London
William de Rude, customer of London.
Note
The petition dates to c. 1322 as two references in the patent rolls suggest that John de Burford was alive in August 1321, and dead by October 1322 when Rose was described as his widow and it seems unlikely that the petition would be too long after this (CPR 1321-4, pp.12, 207).
