Description
Petitioners
Robert de Scales, son and heir of Robert de Scales.
Name(s)
de Scales, Robert
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Scales request that he be granted his lands which are held by his mother at fee farm, he being a ward in the king's keeping and 20 years old. During the time that Scales was in the keeping of the king's father, the king took 200 marks from his mother for his marriage, the farm has always been paid, and Scales has taken nothing from the king for his maintenance.
Nature of endorsement
Let it be sent to Master Richard de Bury.
People mentioned
Egelyne [de Scales], widow of Robert de Scales
Robert de Scales
Master Richard de Bury.
Note
The petition dates to c. 1332 as the petitioner states he is 20 years old, and in his father's IPM of 4 April 1325 he is recorded as being 13 years of age (CIPM, vol. VI, no.593). It is possible that a commission of certiorari de feodis of March 1332 and the order to the escheator of September 1332 are closely related to the petition (CIPM, vol. VII, no.476; CFR 1327-37, p.326).
