[Petition in 2 parts].1) The tenants request that the king settle the matter of Bootham. Bootham is a suburb of the city but the abbot of St Mary falsely claims the suburb up to Bootham Bar to be parcel of his borough of Bootham to the disinheritance of the king and them. They request that Robert de Thorp and his companions, the king's sergeants be commanded to aid the citizens in the maintenance of the king's right, and the right of the city.2) They further request that the matter be tried by inquisition, and that it be commanded to the council that the inquisition should not be taken outside the city where those of the inquisition are able to view the bounds of the suburb and what the abbot calls his borough.
