Clavering shows that Payn and other malefactors by force and arms took five ships of his at Walberswick and carried away his goods in the boats, and assaulted and imprisoned his servants so that he was deprived of their service to his damage. He requests remedy by oyer and terminer.

He should have an oyer and terminer in Chancery before suitable justices.

The petition must date to 1330 as a commission of oyer and terminer was issued for the matter on 13 January 1331 (CCR 1330-4, p.62), The date is confirmed as the petition is published in Rot. Parl. II from a Hale manuscript which dated the petitions to parliament held at Westminster after the feast of St Katherine in 4 Edw. III (1330) (Rot. Parl. vol. II, p.33a (no.12)).
