Pontz requests satisfaction of debts incurred in the maintenance of men at arms and foot serjeants retained in the service of the king's father, for which he holds bills sealed by the constable of Bordeaux in the value of £3,180 18s chipoteys [currency of Bayonne] and £1,408 18s chipoteys [currency of Bayonne].1)
Nature of endorsement
Let the bills of debt be shown, and with whom he has accounted, and by whose warrant.2) And afterwards it was agreed by the council that the constable of Bordeaux ordered to make account with him and to pay him or make assignment as quickly as he is able.3) [Further note] Afterwards, Pontz treated in person with the treasurer and others of the council and it was agreed to accept the whole debt stated in the petition and to recompense him by a writ of liberate to the treasurer and barons of the exchequer, taking a rate of £5 chipoteys to £1 sterling.
