Nature of request
The burgesses request remedy as Despenser has purchased the manor of Ashley with the bailiwick of the forest of Bere and the foresters of the bailiwick, by the great lordship of Despenser, have entered the liberty of Southampton and made attachments for trespasses committed in the wood which now is in the possession of the canons of the priory of St Denis, the wood formerly being part of the farm of Southampton for which they have ever since been allowed in their account.

[On face].Let justices of the Forest be assigned to enquire upon the contents in the petition, and let the king be certified.[On dorse].. . . and Bereford be assigned justices of the Forest to inquire upon the contents of the petition, and let the king be certified in Chancery.
