Nature of request
Writ of scire facimus of Richard II to the sheriffs of London to make Lincoln come before the king in Chancery in the quindene of St John the Baptist concerning what he knows of a moiety of a tenement in Bishopsgate called 'Dragon on the Hope' which was taken into the king's hand by the felonious killing of John Bryd by John Popul.1)
Nature of endorsement
By virtue of the writ we instructed [scire fecimus] Robert de Lincoln that he be before you in Chancery at the day within written to do and receive just as is ordered in the writ, by Richard Londres and William Farndon.2) At which day Lincoln by his attorney, and Penyel and Pole by their attorney appeared. And Lincoln alleged he held the tenement of the king, and could not answer without him which is granted. A day is given in the quindene of St Hillary next, and in the meantime Penyel and Pole should sue to the king for a licence to proceed in the plea if it seems expedient to them.3) The response of Thomas Neuton and Gilbert Maghfeld, sheriffs.
