SC 8/177/8806
Date
[c. 1314]
Description
Petitioners
Burgesses of Beaumaris.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
[Petition in 2 parts].1) The burgesses request that they be granted the demesne belonging to the castle and the turbary, paying an increase beyond the extent of 1d an acre for the former, and 12d. for the latter, as they have insufficient land.2) The burgesses request that if the king does not wish to keep the town in his own hand, that he grant it to them at farm, as they doubt others will take it.1)
Nature of endorsement
Concerning the first petition the land mentioned in the petition is assigned to them, 278 acres by the increase of 2d, and 46 acres by the increase of 1½d; the turbary and meadow should remain in the king's hand for the profit of the king just as is attested by the justice, chamberlain and other . . ., and on this let them have the king's letters.2) Concerning the second petition, they should hold it at the king's will for an increase of 20s per annum.
Places mentioned
Beaumaris, [Anglesey, Wales].
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1314 as it seems to relate to a charter roll entry of 1 May 1314, though this entry does not seem to be in response to the petition (CChR 1300-26, p.272).
