Nature of request
The people request that the order to Cobham be fulfilled and that they have a judge who will not be a party as despite the losses that they have incurred [given in full and graphic detail] the order given to Cobham that the people should be compensated from the goods of those who have not come to the king's peace and turned to the king of France, and that the goods of those who died in the assault should pass to the heirs, Cobham does not wish to do anything, and has given them a term in London.1)
Nature of endorsement
Concerning the losses they have had the king's answer that he had previously ordered Cobham to give compensation to them according to their losses in goods of the Normans and other fugitives according to the quantity of their goods.2) As to the chattels of those who died in the assault, of this let it be as it is commanded elsewhere.

The petition dates to c. 1295 as it clearly refers to the writ, copies of which elsewhere in the SC 8 class date to 24 August 1295 (SC 8/175/8717; SC 8/275/13731). As Cobham seems still to be warden at this time, the petition cannot be later than 1297.
