SC 8/175/8705
Date

Description
Petitioners
John Justice.
Name(s)
Justice, John
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Justice asks for the inquisition that he requested concerning his indictment for the death of Wauter who died in the castle of Guernsey. He was indicted by an inquisition taken in his absence and requested another inquisition but this has not been taken and he has been forced to abjure.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Places mentioned
Guernsey, [Channel Islands].
People mentioned
Ranulph Wauter (Gauter).
Note
The petition dates to c. 1320 as it clearly closely dates to the pardons issued in December 1320 to the petitioner for the death of Gauter, but it is unclear whether the petition follows these pardons as no mention of an inquisition is made in either of the pardons, and it is possible that the petition is later than these (CPR 1317-21, pp.534-5).
