Nature of request
Tyndale requests that a certain sum, as pleases the king, of a debt that he owes him from when he served as Sheriff of Northumberland against his will, be discharged for the costs and losses that he has suffered when he was ordered by the king to keep watch between Haydon and Corbridge, when Douglas entered the host at Stanhope, and in residing at Berwick. He also requests a charter that he might not be charged with offices, juries or assises.

Note
The petition is dated to c. 1333 in accordance with the guard note, which is itself based on a possibly related letter of protection granted to the petitioner in October 1332 (CPR 1330-4, p.344). The petition must postdate December 1332 as it refers to the petitioner being forced to act as sheriff, and his term ended then (List of Sheriffs, p.97). The reference being ordered to Berwick might postdate the recapture of Berwick in 1333.
