Note
The petition dates to 1322-1324 because the petition is clearly part of Henry of Lancaster's attempts to recover his inheritance after the forfeiture of his elder brother, Thomas of Lancaster, and refers to the last parliament held at York that must refer to one of the three parliaments held at York between May and November 1322. The petition in all likelihood dates to 1323, and Lancaster appointed attorneys to prosecute his petitions before the king for the earldoms of Lancaster and Leicester on 6 May 1323 (CCR 1318-23, p.711). Much of what was petitioned for was actually granted on 29 March 1324, so that the petition certainly cannot be later than that date especially as Lancaster was granted the title of earl of Leicester at that time, and no such styling is evident in the petition (CFR 1319-27, p.268).
