Date
[? 1327]
Description
Petitioners
William de la Beche (Beech); Eufemie (Euphemia) de la Beche (Beech), wife of William de la Beche, and one of the daughters of Edmund Comyn of Kilbride; Edmund de Pakenham; Mary de Pakenham, wife of Edmund de Pakenham and the other daughter of Edmund Comyn of Kilbride.
Name(s)
Beche (Beech); Beche (Beech); de Pakenham; de Pakenham, William; Eufemie (Euphemia); Edmund; Mary
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The petitioners request that the matter of their complaint concerning the taking of Fakenham Aspes into the king's hand by the minority of the daughters of Comyn, and their subsequent seizure for unlicenced alienations made by Comyn be brought before the council, as following an earlier petition [recited in full] the matter has been delayed by the malice of Despenser.
Nature of endorsement
The inquisition should be viewed before the council.
Places mentioned
Kilbride, [Lanarkshire, Scotland]
York
Fakenham Aspes (Great Fakenham), [Suffolk].
People mentioned
Edmund Comyn of Kilbride
Hervy de Staunton, keeper of Mary [de Pakenham when she was a minor]
Hugh le Despenser.
Note
The guard note suggests a date of c. 1322 seq., but this does seem unlikely as related petitions appear to date to the parliament held at York in 1322 and earlier, and this petition complains of Hugh le Despenser as well, an unlikely occurrence in 1322. It seems far more likely that the petition is from early Edward III, and therefore? 1327.
