Reference
SC 8/173/8627
Date
[c. 1357]
Description
Petitioners
None.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
It is requested that certain people be assigned to enquire of the matter of the land that Prendregast inherited from his mother in Cornhill as he resided until the age of thirty or more in Berwickshire and Roxburghshire in the faith of the Scots by which the lands should be forfeit to the king as forfeits of war.
Nature of endorsement
Let certain people be assigned to enquire upon the points contained in the petitions and let the inquisition be returned into Chancery, and let right be done to the king and the party.
Places mentioned
Cornhill on Tweed, [Northumberland]
Norhamshire, [Northumberland]
Durham liberty
Berwickshire, [Scotland]
Roxburgh, [Scotland].
People mentioned
William [de Prendregest (Prendregast)]
Isabel [de Cornhill], mother of William de Prendregast.
Note
The petition is dated to 1348-1351 by Fraser (Northern Petitions, p.273 (no.204)). This is, in part, based on the dating of SC 8/173/8626. However, this petition and 173/8626 are probably near contemporaries and probably date to c. 1357 as a commission of oyer and terminer was issued into Predregest's adherence to the Scots on 3 August 1357, and an order to arrest Predregest for treason on 8 August (CPR 1354-8::pp.613-4).
