Reference
SC 8/173/8620
Date
[? c. 1302]
Description
Petitioners
William de Hauteryve (Dautre); Helewyse de Hauteryve (Dautre), wife of William de Dautre; Elizabeth de Welleby (Welby), sister of Helewyse de Dautre.
Name(s)
de Hauteryve (Dautre); de Hauteryve (Dautre); de Welleby (Welby), William; Helewyse; Elizabeth
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The Hauteryves and Welleby request that the truth concerning their lands is enquired of as they have a summons on them in the Exchequer for a debt of D'Engayne as it was thought they were tenants of lands that were his, though they held nothing from him. They request that in the meantime that they are able to have respite.
Nature of endorsement
Let it be ordered to the sheriff that he not distrain the tenements and lands of D'Engayne in this petition.
People mentioned
Warren D'Engayne.
Note
The petition has been dated to? c. 1302 on the basis of a guard note reference to CCR 1296-1302, p.559. However, there seems to be absolutely nothing of relevance to this petition on that page or in neighbouring close roll volumes, or in the corresponding patent roll volumes, so that the dating of this petition is particularly suspect.
