Wesaunt requests regard in lands or in ransoms as he has served the king at his own cost and has lost his goods and chattels to the Scots, and he and his tenants have been burnt out, and he dare not reside on his land but resides at York for fear of the enemy.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege, Herlaston.
Note
The petition is dated to 1314-1325 as the petition refers committed by the Scots and the king's enemies that would suggest a petition of around these dates when Scottish raiding was at its height. The reference to the king's enemies may indicate a date to after the revolt of Thomas of Lancaster.
