Description
Petitioners
Nicholas Hogenona of Ireland, chaplain.
Name(s)
Hogenona, Nicholas
Addressees
Council.
Places mentioned
Ireland
Oxford, [Oxfordshire]
London.
Nature of request
Hogenona requests that he may come before the council to answer any charges made against him, and that it be ordained for his delivery as he was on his way to the court of Rome and gave money to an Austin friar for safe-keeping, and when he requested the money at London the friar accused him of being 'a wild Irishman' and he was imprisoned.
Nature of endorsement
On 25 August in the second year of the reign, it was agreed by the council [named] that a writ be delivered to the sheriffs of London to deliver the petitioner out of prison if he was imprisoned by the cause within comprised, and by no other reason.
Note
The petition dates to 1401 as there is a dating clause in the response dating to 2 August (2 Hen. IV), and the sheriffs of London were ordered to release the petitioner if he had been imprisoned for the reasons that he had alleged on 25 August 1401 (CCR 1399-1402, p.370).
