Nature of request
Hildesle and Wodehous request that a certain punishment be ordained for those sheriffs who, against their oaths, receive writs of judgment without them being sealed by seals of the Chancery or Exchequer as this is to the great damage of the king concerning the fees for the seals.
Nature of endorsement
Let a writ be sent to the justices of the Common Bench containing the effect of the petition [obscured by repair] . . . to the profit of the king.
Note
The petition is dated to 1332-1341 based upon the tenures of office of the two petitioners. John Woddhouse's tenure of the office of clerk of the Hanaper was from 1328 to 1340 (Tout, Chapters in Med. Admin. History, (1928), p76 n.3). Hildesle's tenure of the office of chancellor of the Exchequer lasted from 1334 to 1341 (List and Index, Special Series, vol. 18 (1983), p.36).
