The petition is dated to c. 1270-c. 1280 as the petition refers to Roger de Seaton as justice of the Bench, and he served as justice from 1270-3, and chief justice from 1274-8, and while it is not clear whether he was still serving from the petition, the hand suggests an early petition of about this date range (Sainty, Judges of England, pp.45, 58).
