Nature of request
[Petition in 2 parts]. 1) [Wickford] requests that it be ordained that he can have the same retinue of men-at-arms and archers as other chancellors have had before him, or that a writ be directed to the treasurer and barons of the Irish Exchequer that he can have some reasonable reward for the journeys that he makes for his office. 2) He requests that certain lords, barons of the Exchequer and auditors be assigned to hear the articles in his account for when he was constable of Bordeaux and some allowance made for them as they have not been heard and he wishes to depart to Ireland.
Nature of endorsement
He should have a warrant to the treasurer of Ireland to allow to the chancellor wages of men at arms riding with him when he is travelling according to the ordinance and advice of the justice and treasurer.
Note
The petition is dated to 1376 in accordance with the dating of Sayles, as the petition makes clear that the appointment is recent, and Wickford was only appointed chancellor on 18 July 1376 (Sayles, Affairs, p.233, note 1).
