[c. 1327]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas Rys (Rhys), citizen and goldsmith of London.
Name(s)
Rys (Rhys), Thomas
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
citizen and goldsmith of London
Nature of request
Rys requests that the rent granted to him by John de Lashley issuing from the manor of Lashley be delivered to him as Despenser falsely obtained seisin of the manor and forced Rys by imprisonment to deliver his writings to Despenser, and the manor is now in the hand of the king by Despenser's forfeiture.
Nature of endorsement
Let it be ordered by writ to search the muniments of Despenser if any such writing be found, and if it is found let it be enquired of if the livery was be force and distress of prison, and when the certification and inquisition have been returned into Chancery, let justice be done.
Places mentioned
London
Lashley, Essex
Westminster.
People mentioned
Hugh le Despenser, the son
John de Latcheleye (Lashley), late lord of the manor of Lashley.
Note
The petition has been dated to c. 1327 on the basis of the dating of the number of related petitions and other documents which all seem to date to this period, and because the petition is clearly after the fall of the Despensers. The dating of the guard to? c. 1330 seems to be based on a close roll reference that has no clear direct relation to this petition (CCR 1330-3, p.236).
