Tenants of Kirkby in Kendal.

Nature of request
The tenants request the grant of pontage for seven years or for a term that pleases the king to aid them in the repair of the bridges of Kirkeby and Levens as they have been damaged by the Scottish enemies, and the tenants and country are so impoverished by the coming of the enemy that they are unable to do it themselves.
Nature of endorsement
Let it be ordered to the sheriff of Westmorland . . . Robert de Barton to enquire if the bridges . . . [the remainder of the lengthy response is largely illegible].
