SC 8/170/8469
Date
[1330]
Description
Petitioners
John de Dene.
Name(s)
de Dene, John
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Dene requests that he be restored to the office of weighage (pesage) of wools in Southampton which was granted to him for life for his service, as the earl of March has granted the office to Lesewy without the king's will.
Nature of endorsement
Because it is agreed, if it pleases the king, that the collector of wools be in the estate as it was in the time of the king's grandfather, and that if a commission is made to the contrary, then it should be repealed, but otherwise it should remain until it is otherwise ordained.
Places mentioned
Southampton, [Hampshire].
People mentioned
[Roger Mortimer], earl of March
Roger Lesewy (Lysewy).
Note
The petition is dated to 1330 as the petition is published in Rot. Parl. II from a Hale manuscript which dated the petitions to parliament held in 4 Edw. III (1330) (Rot. Parl. vol. II, p.39a (no.40)).
