Nature of request
The citizens request remedy and that an inquisition can be held into the old wines that they were forced to take from the stock in Porchester Castle by the Despensers and others, and which they have been unable to sell despite incurring great costs, and they request that the treasurer and barons be commanded not to make execution on them.
Nature of endorsement
Let certain people be assigned in Chancery to enquire in the presence of Abingdon then butler of the king if he wishes, of the value of the wine at the time of its delivery to the petitioners, and whether they took the wine by force and against their will and of other matters concerning this, and when the inquisition has been taken and returned into Chancery let it be shown to the king so that he can say his will.
