Description
Petitioners
Adam Gerard and eight neighbours of the neighbourhood of Great Fakenham.
Name(s)
Gerard, Adam
Addressees
Council.
Nature of request
Gerard and his neighbours request that Beche and Audley be called to put their challenge to their claim for lands that they bought in Fakenham. Gerard and his neighbours bought many parcels of land from Comyn in Fakenham, Comyn holding in chief of the king, but because this was done without licence the lands were taken into the king's hand and placed in the keeping of Beche and Audley. The petitioners requested licences, but Beche and Audley have objected following the inquisition into the same.
Nature of endorsement
Because the inquisitions are now returned they should sue in the same place, and let justice be done to them. And if it is necessary that Beche and Audley are called, let them be called and heard in the same place.
Places mentioned
Fakenham, [Suffolk].
People mentioned
Edmund Comyn
Nicholas de la Beche
Hugh Daudeley (Audley), the younger.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1310-1325 as the petition appears to be of Edward II's reign, and the reference to Audley has to make the petition before 1325.
