Nature of request
Sutton requests that the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer be ordered to view the release of the late earl of Aumale, and hear his arguments, and discharge him of the rent for the eels in accordance with the release. The earl released to the petitioner's great-grandfather 6,000 eels in the water of Hull, but after the earl's estates escheated to the king's predecessors, and both Sutton and his father have been charged rent for the eels.
Nature of endorsement
Let a writ be directed to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that they view the release mentioned by the petition and hear the petitioner's arguments, and if they are able to know by Exchequer remembrances or by another manner that the rent for the eels ought not to be demanded then let the petitioner be discharged of the rent.

The petition is dated to c. 1327-c. 1335 as the hand of the petition suggests a petition of the early part of Edward III's reign, and the petition ms probably a near contemporary of SC 8/73/3620.
