Merchants of Genoa and Italy.

Nature of request
The merchants request that their goods which were taken by people of the Little Fleet as they returned home in a ship of Flanders be kept in safe arrest until the truth of the matter be enquired of, and that after this they can have delivery of the goods and go under the king's safe-conduct.
Nature of endorsement
They should have a writ under the great seal to the warden of the Cinque Ports to keep the ship and its goods safely and unspoiled until the matter has been discussed of to whom the merchandises pertain.

The petition dates to 1378 as a commission was issued to the constable of Dover Castle and the warden of the Cinque Ports to examine the matter and certify the king on 24 September 1378 (CPR 1377-81, p.307).
