Reference
SC 8/169/8413
Date
[1327]
Description
Petitioners
William de Whithurst, keeper of the lands that were William Holyns.
Name(s)
de Whithurst, William
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
keeper of the lands that were William Holyns
Nature of request
Whithurst requests that a writ is granted to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer to allow to Whithurst in his account as much as the queen acquitted Holyns for, and for the sum received by Reading. Holyns was assigned to Gloucester by the late king to pay the men-at-arms coming to the king's aid, and paid by the king's command a certain sum to Reading, and after the coming of the king and queen, paid the remainder to the queen, but now the sum formerly held by Holyns is demanded from Whithurst.
Nature of endorsement
Let the petition be sent to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer, and let them view the things contained in it and do justice.
Places mentioned
Gloucester, [Gloucestershire].
People mentioned
William de Holyns (Hollins)
Simon de Reddyngges (Reading)
[Isabella of France], Queen [of England].
Note
The petition clearly dates to after the fall of Edward II as it refers to events in later 1326 when Edward II was trying to rally support for his collapsing regime, and to events after the fall as the petitioner has clearly been entrusted with the custody of land of one of Edward II's loyalists with reference to Queen Isabella.
