[The petition is missing a portion from the right-hand half which makes it difficult to recover the sense of the petition.]Kirkby requests remedy as he has been taken and put to ransom for 850 marks against his protection, and the knights have paid part of the ransom, but because the lands of . . . he does not have anything to pay the ransom. [Mention is made of a matter agreed in full council held at York in the previous Christmas by the earl of Warenne.]

Note
