Nature of request
[Petition in 3 parts].1) The people request remedy as the ministers of the archbishop ought, for the proving and administration of wills, receive nothing except 4d. for each testament, but will not grant administration to the executors without much greater sums according to the quantity of goods found, and if they will not pay they sequester the goods until satisfaction is made to them.2) They further complain that though by custom the account of each testament is rendered in the deanery, the ministers will not receive the accounts of the executors, nor make acquittance without great gifts of money from the goods of the dead, and if they will not pay they hinder them. Remedy is requested.3) These things were begun by Archbishops Corbridge and Greenfield.4) Remedy is requested as no man should be charged to come to church but demands are being made, namely from each mark of the taxation of the church, 1d.
