Nature of request
John of Brittany makes a number of requests.1) He requests the return of three-quarters of a knight's fee in Leadenham held of him by Roger de Colevile, taken into the king's hands by Bray and held for two years.2) He requests remedy regarding the marriage of Henry Fitz Conan, which ought to belong to him, as Henry's grandfather held two manors of him by knight service. Normanville has taken wardship of Henry for the king, stating that the grandfather held the manor of Liverton from Thwing, now in the king's hands following the death of Thwing. However, he notes that the king is entitled to no more than Thwing would have held, and that the manors held of him are of an older acquisition.3) He requests the upholding of his rights to amercements from tourns and views in the wapentakes in the franchise of Babraham in Cambridgeshire. The sheriff has made delivery of the distresses to the county court without the king's writ, and he asks that these not be made within the franchise without the king's writ. [deleted]4) He requests that the king and council take action over the recent wrongdoings at Boston, so that the malefactors be punished and the fair can be repaired.5) He requests remedy for damage done to his tenants of Iden by the new town of Winchelsea.
