Description
Petitioners
Edward de Saint John and Eve de Saint John, his wife.
Name(s)
de Saint John; de Saint John, Edward; Eve
Addressees
King and Council.
Nature of request
The petitioners state that they recovered seisin of two parts of the manors of Westhampnett, Woolbeding, Pinkhurst and Highfure, and held them of Eve's dower. Aymer de Valence and others have since disseised them of these lands, and they have sued an assize against them, but Valence died during the assize, after which they sued against Hastings and others. However, he also then died, and they sued against Laurence de Hastings and the others, but the justices will not proceed to judgment as Laurence is under-age and a ward of the king. They therefore request that the king order the justices to proceed to judgment, notwithstanding the non-age of Laurence, as they have now been disseised for eleven years.
Nature of endorsement
Order the justices to take the assize etc, but not to render judgment without consulting the king.
