Description
Petitioners
Merchants and Mercers of London and the Merchants of Germany.
Addressees
King and Council.
Nature of request
The petitioners make two requests.1) They request remedy, stating that the German merchants were accustomed to come to London to sell their felt hats, but that English merchants now wish to prevent them so that they may sell their own hats at a higher price, which would be detrimental to the king's customs.2) The merchants of London also make a second request regarding their liberties, but the text is faded and most is now illegible.
Nature of endorsement
If the hats which they bring are good and sufficient they should be sold and bought as they are accustomed.Concerning the second petition they should appear in Chancery and show their charters, and right will be done accordingly.
