Description

Gorges, Theobald

Council.
Nature of request
Theobald Gorges requests that he be granted livery and seisin of his lands in Sturminster Marshall, as he is now of full age. He states that a petition was sent to the parliament of November 1422, stating that, although the inquisition held on his brother's death by Hody on 22 June 1419 recorded that he was aged 13, he was actually then aged 17. A further inquisition, ordered on 20 February 1423 and held at Dorchester by Carrant on 8 March 1423, has confirmed his claim.
Nature of endorsement
On 1 May in the second year it was agreed by the lords of the council with the authority of parliament that the chancellor should send writs to the sheriffs of Hampshire, Devon, Somerset and Dorset ordering them to deliver to Theobald of the lands pertaining to him.
