Reference
SC 8/167/8341
Date
[? c. 1350]
Description
Petitioners
Peter Vanne.
Name(s)
Vanne, Peter
Addressees
King and Council.
Nature of request
Peter Vanne requests that the order made in his favour at the last parliament regarding his earlier petition be carried out. A copy of the earlier petition, and the resultant answer, is enclosed.
Nature of endorsement
Order the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer to view this bill and search the rolls and memoranda of the Exchequer touching these payments, and the sums which ought to have been paid to the said John and his companions for the debt due from the king, which is now demanded of the said Peter, and discharge the said Peter, and endorse the same sums on the said bill.
People mentioned
John [Vanne, father of the petitioner].
Note
The handwriting of both this petition and the associated petition at SC 8/167/8342 would suggest a date in the middle of the fourteenth century. John Vanne was a receiver of the wine customs at Bordeaux in the latter years of Edward I (E 101/159/9), and inquisitions into his property were held in 1316, suggesting that he had either died then, or had suffered forfeiture (C 47/25/2/28-9). However, a writ to the customers of Sandwich regarding the re-payment of a debt owed to John was issued in 1360 (E 122/228/67B), and may relate to the matter contained in these petitions.
