Reference
SC 8/167/8326
Date
[c. 1322]
Description
Petitioners
Edmund de Mounpynzon (Monpinzon), son of John de Mounpynzon.
Name(s)
de Mounpynzon (Monpinzon), Edmund
Addressees
King and Council.
Nature of request
Edmund, son of John Mounpynzon, requests the execution of an award made in the king's court. He states that he was sued by Eleanor, wife of William de Mounpynzon, on a writ of entry regarding a messuage and land in West Bilney, for which he vouched to warrant Robert de Walkefare. Walkefare repeatedly defaulted, and thus the court adjudged that the property be awarded to Eleanor, and Edmund compensated the value of the property by Walkefare.
Nature of endorsement
Coram Rege.
Places mentioned
Westminster
West Bilney, [Norfolk].
People mentioned
John de Mounpynzon (Monpinzon), father of the petitioner
Eleanor [de Mounpynzon (Monpinzon)], wife of William de Mounpynzon
William de Mounpynzon (Monpinzon)
Robert de Walkefare
sheriff of Norfolk.
Note
The petition presumably dates to the reign of Edward II, since Walkefare was dead by c.1337, and the petition refers to events occurring in the twelfth year of the present king's reign. Another petition against Walkefare from another member of the Mounpynzon family, now SC 8/62/3088, suggests that the family used the Walkefare's forfeiture in 1322 to settle some old scores, and it seems highly likely that the present petition dates from around that same time.
