Nature of request
The Abbot of Sawley states that Osgodby has impleaded him before the official of York for tithes from the grange of Stainton, which he claims lies in his parish, although the Abbots of Sawley have held such tithes since the time of King Stephen. Fraunsays, who was the advocate of Osgodby and is now the official of York, found for Osgodby, and the abbot has made an appeal to the court of Rome, but pending the appeal the official has excommunicated him and the greater part of his convent. He therefore requests that no duress be made upon him while the appeal is pending.
