Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/167/8312
Date
[1328]
Description
Petitioners
George de Miriet (Meriet, Meriott).
Name(s)
de Miriet (Meriet, Meriott), George
Addressees
King and Council.
Nature of request
George de Miriet requests remedy, stating that he and his ancestors have held the manors of Merriott and Lopen with their fairs and markets since the Conquest. However, in the time of his grandfather, these markets and fairs were taken into the king's hands due to the absence of John from the hearings before Rochester and Boiland.
Nature of endorsement
Have a writ in chancery to bring the record and process before the king, and if it is found that the markets and fairs were taken into the king's hands for the reason given, then he shall have them back for a fine.
Places mentioned
Merriott, [Somerset]
Lopen, [Somerset]
Somerset.
People mentioned
John de Meriet, grandfather of the petitioner
Solomon de Rochester, justice
Richard Boiland, justice
Edward I, King of England.
Note
Dated by Rot. Parl. II, p.13 to 1328. The endorsement would seem to suggest that it slightly post-dates another petition on this matter at SC 8/10/499, although it can be no later than November 1328, when George de Meriet died (CIPM, vol. VII, no.150).
