Nature of request
The abbot of Croxton, Fraunceys, Braundeston, Halam, Leghton and Stanley state that Cauntlieu by his writ presented Cundale to the church of Ilkeston, then vacant, and although Cundale didn't appear Cauntlieu instituted and inducted him so that the church was vacant until after Cauntlieu's death, at which time all his lands and tenements were seized into the hand of Edward III who presented the church to Braundeston. Because Cundale was in possession of the church, Edward III brought a writ of quare impedit against him in the King's Bench and it was found to be the King's right, and Braundeston was instituted and inducted by the bishop and Cundale removed. Whereupon Cundale has sued in the Court of Rome against Braundeston and has falsely made various sentences to have himself pronounced. And Mowbray, pretending to be the principal executor of the said sentences, and others have made due processes of excommunication, suspension and interdiction against the petitioners because they are Braundeston's supporters. The petitioners request that the King send letters to the Pope to repeal and annul all the processes and sentences made in this case and to provide remedy in this case and other similar cases.
