Nature of request
The bishop of Carlisle states that whereas Edward I granted the prior and canons of Carlisle the tithes of assarts present and future in the forest of Inglewood, the current prior and his canons, acting against the said charter, come into the bishop's parish and take the tithes of wool and lambs and of all manner of cattle in the said forest and in the bishop's parish. And they have done this each year since he became bishop, which tithes have been in the peaceable possession of the church and the bishops of Carlisle for 100 years before the grant was made. The petitioner requests remedy since each year he is damaged to the value of over 20 silver marks.
Nature of endorsement
This petition should be sent before the King, and the King's serjeants called there to hear the reasons for the King and for the bishop, and justice should be done.
