Thomas states that his father died seised of certain lands and rents on the day he died, at which time the petitioner was underage, which lands and rents [were in the hands of ...] until he was of full age, and then ... dispute. Afterwards Clif maliciously ... suggestion ... the King had the wardship and marriage of the petitioner because ... the stranger of whom ... underage in the King's wardship so that the wardship ... to the King by reason of the keeping of the wardship. A writ thereon was sent to Brown to enquire when Ralph died and at what age the petitioner was, which inquest he delivered to Clif who kept it to himself without delivering it into the Chancery and forged another in London which stated that the petitioner was only ... years old when he was in fact 19, and that his lands were worth £20 when they were not. Thomas requests that ... of Baldock by Clif's procurement be charged of the fine to the King of 200 marks for the custody of his lands for 5 years £100 ..., and that the king grant a new inquest before the sheriff or coroner of Rutland so that he can have remedy.

Dated on the guard to c. 1327, with reference to SC 8/48/2396, CFR 1319-27, p. 369, a 1325 grant to Grenham to pay £20 yearly for the 200 marks due as his fine for pardon, and CFR 1327-37, p. 66, a 1327 grant to Grenham of allowance of 100 marks of the 200 marks due as his fine for pardon for trespass and in marrying without the King's licence, since he was the King's ward. This grant, dated 10 Oct 1327, mentions that Grenham presented a petition in the last parliament; Ralph died on 12 Aug 1316 when Thomas was 18.
