Nature of request
Durefort requests that:1) whereas at the last parliament in the 12th year of the King's reign (1338) the King granted to the petitioner's father and his heirs the land for which the petitioner's father, and after his death the petitioner, did homage, and recently the King has burdened him with disturbances and troubles in the said lands, that the King remove all such disturbances, renew his grant and revoke all other grants or exchanges made to others concerning the said lands, having regard for the fact that he and his father received fealty and homage from the inhabitants of the said lands, their good and loyal service, the great losses and damages which they have suffered and the death of his father in the King's service.2) he receive the £1000 which the King and council granted him to maintain his estate in money of Gascony, and 500 marks which the King owes him for arrears of a toll of St Macaire, and that he be paid here, since it is of no use to him overseas seeing that he is in such state that he cannot live and is on the point of being imprisoned and ruined for debt which he owes for his livelihood, and has left his wife, child and men in the town of Bayonne as hostages until he has paid his debt.3) the King order the treasurer to pay him the £100 assigned to him long ago in part payment of the aforesaid money to pay his debts due in London, for which he left two of his companions as hostages until he has paid the said debts, so that his companions can be freed.
