Rytte requests remedy against Richard Fortescu, to whose wife's sister Rytte is married, who on the morrow of the Nativity of Our Lady (9 September) last, with the support of John, William and Henry Fortescu, broke into his house, beat Rytte leaving him for dead, and stole 100s. and goods to the value of 80 marks. The Duke of Bedford sent letters to Richard and John Fortescu ordering them to appear before him on the quinzaine of Michaelmas (13 October) last, which letters the petitioner ... the King's officers in the said county and are so greatly ... in the country ... that the petitioner cannot have any remedy. ... find surety to keep the peace and he refused and answered that he would not do so because he was married to Richard's sister, and no other officer or official there .... The petitioner requests that the council grant letters under the privy seal to the Fortescus, ordering them to appear before the council.

On 17 July in the 10th year, it was granted by the council that a writ should be directed to Richard and John Fortescu to appear before the council on the octave of Michaelmas ... the said Rytte and all ... sufficient surety ... etc. and to make ... the said William and Henry Fortescu, Walter Whitlee, William Bastard and John Bozun to appear before ...
